Tell me about my Headlight Restoration
Over time, headlight lenses become cloudy, yellowed, or hazy due to UV damage, dirt, and oxidation. This reduces light output, making night driving less safe and giving your vehicle an older appearance. Headlight restoration removes the damage and restores clarity to improve visibility and appearance.
What is a headlight restoration?
This service involves cleaning, sanding, and polishing the headlight lens to remove oxidation and restore transparency. A protective UV coating is then applied to keep the headlights clear for longer.
Why do you need a headlight restoration?
Cloudy or yellowed headlights reduce the amount of light reaching the road, making driving at night or in poor weather less safe. Restoring your headlights improves visibility, enhances safety, and improves your vehicle’s overall look.
Common signs you need a headlight restoration
- Cloudy, yellowed, or foggy headlight lenses
- Reduced light output at night
- Uneven or dim headlight beams
- Vehicle looks older due to faded headlights
- Failed WOF or safety inspection for poor lighting
What happens during a headlight restoration?
A mechanic or technician will:
- Clean the headlight lenses to remove surface dirt
- Sand away the oxidised or yellowed surface layer
- Polish the lenses to restore clarity
- Apply a UV-protective sealant to prevent future damage
- Test the headlights to ensure improved brightness
How much does a headlight restoration cost?
Headlight restoration typically costs $120–$250 for both headlights. If lenses are too damaged and require full replacement, costs may be $400–$1,200+ depending on the vehicle.
Is it unsafe to drive with cloudy headlights?
Yes. Cloudy or yellowed headlights can reduce visibility by up to 70%, making night driving and poor-weather driving dangerous. Restoring them improves safety and keeps your vehicle road legal.
