Tell me about my Tyre Repair
A damaged or punctured tyre doesn’t always mean you need a full replacement. In many cases, a tyre can be safely repaired if the damage is minor and located in an approved repairable area. Tyre repair restores safety, extends the tyre’s life, and saves you money compared to buying a new tyre.
What is a tyre repair?
Tyre repair involves inspecting the tyre, locating the damage, and sealing it with a proper plug and patch from the inside of the tyre. This ensures a safe, airtight seal that restores the tyre to working condition.
Why do you need a tyre repair?
Driving on a punctured or damaged tyre can lead to air loss, poor handling, uneven wear, or even a blowout. A timely repair allows you to continue using the tyre safely instead of replacing it prematurely.
Common reasons you may need a tyre repair
- Puncture from a nail, screw, or sharp object
- Slow leak from a small hole in the tread
- Bead leaks (where the tyre seals against the rim)
- Minor damage within the repairable tread area
What happens during a tyre repair?
A mechanic will:
- Remove the tyre and inspect it inside and out
- Locate the puncture or damage
- Prepare and clean the damaged area
- Install a professional plug and patch repair
- Refit and balance the tyre
- Check for leaks and ensure the tyre is safe for use
How much does a tyre repair cost?
A professional tyre repair typically costs $50–$90, depending on the tyre size and type. This is much cheaper than replacing a tyre, making it a cost-effective option when safe to do so.
Is it always safe to repair a tyre?
Not always. Tyres with sidewall damage, large holes, or punctures outside the repairable tread area cannot be safely repaired and must be replaced. Your mechanic will advise if repair is possible or if a replacement is required.
