Tell me about my Wheel Repair

Wheels can suffer damage from potholes, kerbs, accidents, or general wear and tear. Common issues include bends, cracks, corrosion, and cosmetic scuffs. Wheel repair restores the function, safety, and appearance of your wheels without the high cost of replacement. Professional repairs also ensure that repaired wheels remain balanced and structurally sound for safe driving.

What is a wheel repair?

Wheel repair involves restoring damaged or worn wheels to a safe and functional condition. Depending on the damage, this can include straightening, welding, refinishing, or rebalancing the wheel.

Why do you need a wheel repair?

Damaged wheels can cause vibrations, poor handling, and tyre wear. Cracked or bent wheels may even lead to loss of air pressure and unsafe driving conditions. Repairing wheels maintains safety, prevents further damage, and improves the vehicle’s appearance.

Common reasons you may need a wheel repair

  • Bent wheels from potholes or road impacts
  • Cracks or fractures in the wheel
  • Scuffs, scratches, or curb rash
  • Corrosion or peeling finish
  • Air leaks due to wheel damage

What happens during a wheel repair?

A mechanic or wheel specialist will:

  1. Inspect the wheel for structural and cosmetic damage
  2. Straighten bent areas using specialist equipment
  3. Weld or reinforce cracks where safe to do so
  4. Refinish or repaint the wheel for a fresh appearance
  5. Balance the wheel to ensure smooth driving

How much does a wheel repair cost?

Costs vary depending on the damage. Cosmetic repairs and refinishing typically cost $100–$250 per wheel. Straightening or welding cracks may cost $150–$400+. Severe damage may require full wheel replacement.

Is it unsafe to drive with a damaged wheel?

Yes. Cracked or bent wheels can cause tyre blowouts, vibrations, and poor handling. Driving with a damaged wheel is unsafe and can cause further harm to tyres and suspension. Repairs or replacement should be carried out promptly.
